Fast Boyfriends / Current Joys (2014).
This project’s final form is a bit muddled, but ultimately exists in three iterations; an initial performance event, an accompanying sculptural installation, and a mixed media response.
A performance featuring Joyce Lee & Sam Fisch.
Wood, steel, vinyl, polyester thread, zipper, Menards’ buckets, funnel, plaster, zip ties, Sony HD Cosmos video camera, shop vac. Dimensions vary.
Performers followed a loose series of directions that went something like this:
Enter the space. Construct the framework by threading zip ties through the metal brackets. Hold the canvas tube inside the framework. Mix the plaster. Use the funnel and pour the plaster into the canvas tube. Hold the tube until the plaster sets and the tube can stand independently in the framework. Exit the space. Reverse vacuum from blowing to sucking to preserve the resulting object as a part of the installation. Film yourselves while completing these objectives.
Plaster, concrete, wood, fiber. Dimensions vary.
An installation accompanying the resulting object of ELIZABETH in the adjoining room.
Single channel video, television, dvd player, frosted vinyl, YKK zipper, extension cords, appliance wall timers, shop-vac, air mattress pump, Menards bucket. Dimensions vary.
The footage produced by the performers during ELIZABETH is displayed inside a frosted vinyl duffel bag. The bag is inflated for five minutes, rests for ten minutes, and is vacuum sealed for five minutes on a continuous cycle run by appliance wall timers.
